  1. Write it down. Use an excel spreadsheet… nothing wrong with a flat rate though if that works for you.

    For hourly rates you usually have to estimate how long it would take you to complete the project. Multiply that by your hourly rate and you tell the client your estimate before you start work, but after the initial consultation where you know what it is they need.

    As you work, you let them know how much time you’ve spent so they’re aware what’s left.
