  1. People who say “make it pop” do not have any design sense. I get it that sometimes that’s who we are designing for, but their design opinion should not be taken as anything worthwhile.

  2. They are very much not the same, timeless is only timeless when it’s withstood the test of time. Think IBM, Braun, Coca-Cola etc etc. Avoid designing with extensive mood boarding or looking at the same inspiration sites as everyone else can help achieve this.

    Trends always start the same way a designer does something original and then 1000’s emulate, then it becomes overused and people move on to the next thing. (It’s lazy and shortsighted)

  3. It is totally possible for trendy design to also be good design. Just because too many people have emulated a style doesn’t mean that it is bad design. It is often a really-well designed piece that catches the attention and inspires others.

    So no, not two sides of the same coin. More like two roads that occasionally cross.
