Graphic designer for film and tv here. The usual way that happens is that set dec just prints some stuff out from Istock without bothering the graphic designer or checking it too closely. Stock sites have some interesting looking posters but the text is almost always lipsum. The graphic designer(s) often have bigger fish to fry than incidental background posters , but those can sometimes end up being featured.
what’s worse in the Amazon show The Patriot there are scenes where characters look at their phones for some sort of text message then have an emotional reaction. But when the camera looks at the message it’s just a blank screen. Someone totally forgot to have text added.
While watching Atypical on Netflix I couldn’t help but notice that one of the posters on the wall still had Lorem Ipsum on it. Do you think this was left due to laziness, a lack of knowing, or on purpose?
I think this might be an actual poster describing the use of lorem ipsum. I remember the center iconography from a poster in one of the studio rooms at my old school.
While I am no longer as militant about it, I have often tried to avoid even using Lorem Ipsum in the first place mainly because I dislike the way it looks and find that if you know what the copyright is going to be before hand, you will tend to better typesetting that is more natural looking. There is few instances that I come across doing entire sites front to back where I don’t have some notion of what the text should actually be or a rough enough sense to not need to use it and in a creative context, as the poster in the image I assume was for someone out there, what better way to call attention to how much one lacks creativity but ever putting Lorem Ipsum where you could have made it say whatever text that is not even hard to imagine if you are truly a creative person who can express themselves at least somewhat in text because you probably use Facebook or Twitter sometimes so you can write a paragraph for sure.

Embrace the truth, Embrace lorem ipsum

I think those of us that notice this kind of stuff in a few background frames of a TV show may be a little “atypical,” funny enough.

Lol I never noticed nice catch. I assume the designers have bigger fish to fry.

Well spotted, that’s hilarious. Nothing can hide through the lens of high definition now
I went to the doctor once and they had a medical infographic poster on the wall entirely in lorem still. Good times….
Eagle eyes
Hahaha!! I loved this series. But really, image how many are out there in other movies or in media in general
That’s hysterical. I love this show and did not notice. Great eye.
It was all I could notice when I watched this.
Woah—great 🦅eyes there! And I always love spotting graphic design hiccups in the real world 😝
Me and fiancée loved this show… not topic related at all 😂

It’s all Greeking to me
Tell that to the suits, they’re the ones who’ll send off a proof you sent them without bothering to check that it’s final art.
Naah thats better
