  1. You say they’re valuable… What make them valuable?

Especially if no one wants them for free?

There’s so so so many sites out there with free assets, what makes these so good? What makes them something worthy of purchasing and spending money on?

Selling digitally is really hard, especially now AI is getting into the arena, 9 times out of 10, whatever assets you have trying to give away, there’s 1000 other very similar resources already out there for free

Why do you think people should pay for these assets when so so so so many are free? What about them is worth paying for?

Are they high quality? Are they in demand, trending assets or things you know people are searching for?

Have you done research, key word research, are they coming up in searches? People using asset websites, are they actually searching for the kind of assets these are and if they are searching, are your assets on the first page?

  2. Your first mistake was creating the product first, and then assuming people want to buy it. You did it backwards. You are every production artist ever.

**Marketing fundamentals.** You’re first supposed to check for gaps in the market. Then, once you think you’ve found a gap, check if there’s demand. If there’s demand, then validate the market to see if people are willing to buy (not the same as the first step).

Aka, find and validate a product niche so you can dominate in that smallest viable market. After you do that, then you make the assets, because now you know people actually *want* those assets. See why making the assets is the *last* step?

If marketing sounds boring to you, or you can’t really bother, then I would just make art for fun and not as a side hustle.

  3. Why do you think these assets are so valuable? No on wants them, they’re clearly not valuable

Are they only valuable to you because you made them and you want to be compensated for the all the time and effort you put into them?

Can I ask why you made them?

Are they leftovers of a project you’re just trying to recycle, did you just randomly do them and now expecting them to sell like hot cakes?

Or did you actually do some research, see what assets are trending and are in demand, what kind of assets people are paying for, do research into key words so your assets are on the first page when people search etc?

If all that sounds boring and you cba, then you ain’t gonna sell shit

You could create some beautiful thing that took you 50 hours… If no one’s searching for it, or if you cba to put in the effort to make it searchable then that’s on you

There’s millions of free websites out there, a lot of designers will create assets themselves because they can, or take a free one and manipulate… So why would they want yours over the sea of others ? And more importantly, why should they pay for yours?

I’ve seen dozens of tiktok videos of kids saying “want to make an easy 1k a month extra? Start selling digital assets” … And it’s clear they don’t have a fucking clue what they’re talking about, ignorant misinformation boarding on disinformation

Selling assets in any meaningful way requires either you flood out assets so your exposure is huge, you generate so so many assets of every category and niche, you fill every page, every “new” page on every asset website, and hope that the ROI works out…

Or you put in time to research and see what’s actually in demand, what assets people want and how to get your asset on that first page

  4. If you have to market and sell pre-made assets that you were trying to give away but nobody wanted, there’s a problem.

You won’t make any substantial amount of money from selling digital assets. Put your efforts into your design skills and your marketing for your design services.
