Design sources/reference books for graphic novels?

I am beginning a brand new design undertaking – laying out a graphic novel. I will be working with a couple of totally different artists, and while I’ve learn plenty of graphic novels, and laid out a couple of books, I’ve not labored on this kind of undertaking earlier than. The artwork shall be taken care of, however I want to keep up a consistency throughout the entire sections.

  1. Not necessarily a practical resource, but you should definitely check out hellomuller.com. Tom Muller does some of the best comic book and graphic novel design I’ve seen. You could learn a lot studying his work.

  2. I think you need exposure to the Basic Principles of Design: Alignment, Proximity, Repetition, Contrast. Once you understand them, you see these elements everywhere. There are lots of blogs and articles written on the issue, all influenced by this book, which I recommend to everyone who’s interested.
