Hello! Very long time lurker right here, hoping this put up is suitable!
I’m wrapping up my final semester of college finding out Expertise interplay design. For my capstone, we have to discover a job earlier than commencement. Final semester I used to be advised by friends and my professor that I might by no means be adequate to get a job after faculty and advised I ought to keep longer to be taught extra design rules. Right this moment I simply signed a proposal letter for a job after faculty with nice pay and advantages. After many rejections, I’m the primary and to this point solely design scholar in my graduating class to have a job supply. Let the haters be your motivators and by no means cease believing in your self! By no means quit! It solely takes one! Preserve making use of!
Your peers and professors sound like royal assholes. “You’ll never be good enough” is superb tutelage /s. But combined with the contrasting “stay longer and learn more” is just idiotic.
Congrats on the job. 56 applications isn’t even that many for landing a first time gig.
14 years design experience at companies like Nike, Microsoft, Oracle, and Amazon. Over 300 applications in the last 3 months. 10 interviews. 2 offers that fell through at the VP level. I’m currently in the process of 3 interviews.
That being said, I’m not entertaining anything under $150k or $75/hr and non-remote so it’s partially on me for being somewhat picky but even at Sr Designer and Art Director roles I’m competing against 500+ candidates
Applied 400+. Still nothing.
56 applies? Those are rookie numbers.
I’m on 187 currently . :((
Best of luck op.
Man, I was laid off in February and I’ve submitted over a hundred at this point. Maybe it’s time for a career switch :’)
658 applications with 5 years experience and no end in sight 😀
Your success rate is staggeringly high
56 applications and fresh out of school wow
Ya know what. I’m going to track my applications from now on. This is a great opportunity and I thank you for making this post
A phenomenal probability that you got a job in less than 100 applications.
No offense please don’t feed us the same empty promise we read on LinkedIn.
“Don’t give up *this.* Don’t give up *that*”
We don’t don’t have much of a choice right now considering it’s either homelessness if not the threat of suicide.

Good job, OP. Also, great job on that visualization you shared. Simple to read and comprehend.
And that you’re the so far the ONLY one of your graduating class to have found employment speaks a LOT more about the quality (or lack thereof) of the program and faculty than it does you and your fellow students. Good luck out there, and when you can, try to pay it forward.
Woah only 56? I’m creeping up towards 100 with only 1 interview I’ve got 15 years of experience.
Amazing work! Congratulations, there are many others still searching after hundreds of applications. I think it’s important to realize everyone will have varying levels of success & different timelines.
I’m glad you were able to work past that insanely rude discouragement & made it!
As someone who graduated during the onset of the pandemic (May 2020), please lean into your network if you’re struggling to find a role. In our field, your network is everything. Your portfolio and experience are the next best thing. If you don’t have a “network”, start now. Future you will thank you.
This graphic looks almost exactly like my experience applying for Sr. UX Designer. Don’t love the job, but happy to be employed right now.
only 56 applications… I was doing that a day for what felt like weeks hahaha. Well done on getting the job!!!
– I was told by peers and my professor that I would never be good enough to get a job after college
– and told I should stay longer to learn more design principles
Should have told them to chose one of those points.
Over-saturated industry.
You should be proud! Nice job!
Big internet hugs! And let all those fuckers disappear in your rearview
Guess I’m lucky, I sent out 3 applications, got 2 interviews out of it, 1 with no offer (yet?) and 1 with offer that I accepted.
I have to say reading this post and the comments has made me feel better about my situation. Been working for a small business since graduating in 2019, and been extremely discouraged that I haven’t been able to find anything else to start moving up. But I guess I’m lucky to be employed at all. Also a kick in the pants to work on myself more and improve my portfolio.
Kudos on getting the job
what a perfect meaningful use of a Sankey chart and also…. congrats!

Inspiring!
This happen to me a lot
I’ve had 3 interviews ever
387 minimum ;-;
Been applying for several months now. I applied for 25 jobs now and still haven’t been accepted. This post gives me hope. Thanks!
Congrats!
I really needed to see this, I literally had a breakdown crying over my UX certificate I got back in September and yet haven’t found a job. ):

Idk if it’s because i’m in Europe, but those numbers are crazy to me as a junior.
Congrats!
I’ve applied to 250+ jobs over the past couple years. Got my first offer yesterday. Feels good but man the process was soul-sucking.
Oh hell no. This is 50% on why i gave up
Congrats man and good luck on your job, this is inspirational!
I feel this in my soul.
As much as rejections hurt, you also need to know that hopefully your interview process brings you to the right job for the right company. Looking back, there are all kinds of jobs I don’t think I would have been good for.
