  1. Typography is sóóó much more complicated then people think. If you are making a font yourself shaping the letters is only half of the story. The blank space around and between letters is probably as or maybe even more important. Creating a font is easy, mastering it and inventing something like for example Arial takes loads of practice and a trained eye. A tip for you: If you make a font type a paper full with 12 pt. Then look at it from a distance and ask yourself what forms or spaces are dominant. You got to change that and then redo the proces. When nothing stands out anymore and the font is easy to read ofcourse you did a pretty decent job.

  2. A really great book I would read is called The Complete Typographer. That is if you trying to learn a bit of the history of type design and learn which are the best of the best. It explains everything so well and has examples. As for learning to produce your own font I would download font forge, type tool, or fontself maker which is even better because it’s a really simple and easy plugin to use with Adobe illustrator.
