How do I obtain this model? (Picture hidden inside a sample)

On the lookout for any recommendation as to how I can replicate this model. I’ve seen it finished with traces dots and so on.

Not even positive of what to name this so any assist could be GREATLY appreciated!

  1. Use two separate patterns but then you will need to carefully craft the skull shape so only complete stars are inside.

You can also just make the grid of stars, put some guides on top with the shape of the skull, select the stars that fall inside the shape and use the transform all filter to make the selected ones about 50% bigger.

If you pay attention, they are all in the same grid. They just look closer together because they are bigger so the margins are narrower.

Looking closely some stars seem to be incomplete but I’m not sure if that’s the result of a mask or a printing error where the dot gain just ruined the details.

You could also use the symbol sprayer tools to dynamically adjust the size and have more levels of transition.

  2. Im guessing you can make the skull as a shape and then create the closer together stars pattern and apply it to the shape and then do another pattern with the stars further apart for the other areas? Might work but might take some adjusting in areas like the nose and such but that can get you all those stars a lot faster imo

  3. You just need to have the two different patterns slightly different. The background is made of smaller stars spaced further apart. The skull is made of bigger stars closer together. Make the skull with one pattern and then tweak the pattern slightly to filling the rest

  4. Looks like a straight grid halftone pattern rotated at a 45° angle, using stars instead of round points and a skull source image. I’ve made [an app](https://www.lostminds.com/vectoraster8/) for this kind of custom halftones, but for basic halftone effects like this you can probably do it with more basic custom halftone tools online or in plugins.

It may be just the image compression or print, but it looks like there’s also a little grunge/bleeding/smudging of some sort applied making the stars a little uneven.
